Practising Tantra: His Holiness’s Chenrezig Sadhana Class 6

You are currently viewing Practising Tantra: His Holiness’s Chenrezig Sadhana Class 6

Khen Rinpoche Geshe Tashi Tsering, abbot of Sera Mey monastery, guides us through His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s sadhana, The Inseparability of the Spiritual Master and Avalokitashvara.  Written by His Holiness, this text is a perfect introduction to tantric practice.

What makes this sadhana so special, aside from the fact we can practice it without having to commit to an initiation, is the opportunity it presents to review and practice the entire Buddhist path.  In the section entitled Request to Actualise the Gradual Path, His Holiness covers the entire lam rim teachings, in just 8 short verses.

Here we have then, a perfect daily practice, and in this class Geshe Tashi gives us a masterful overview of all three scopes of the sutrayana teachings.  As usual, he takes care to embed these topics into the relevance of our modern, daily lives, while at the same time offering scholarly references to the classic Indian and Tibetan texts, with translations from the original Tibetan.

Next class we will continue with the Vajrayana verses of this lam rim, followed by the mantra recitation and visualisation, merging with the spiritual master, the Om Mani Padme Hung mantra, Vajrasattva mantra and dedication verses.

In addition, Geshe la has said he will give us an oral transmission.  Not to be missed!

With best wishes,
